By this time, you have probably seen a lot of this letter from various business leaders. Most of them are letting you know what steps they are taking within the company they serve.

First, I want to address you, the reader. We are going through some trying times. We have seen these things play out in fiction, in movies, television and books. Never have we seen this type of situation in our lifetime.

If you are concerned or afraid, you are not alone. We are all feeling the effects of the drastic measures being taken around us to fight this virus. We are all concerned about the virus itself.

Newspapers have weathered storms, economic hardships and natural disasters before and continued to do our job, to inform our readers and serve our community. These are different times, but this staff has the same resolve.

In 27 years of working in newspapers, the ones I have served have never missed a publication date. I don’t intend to miss a week of publication with the Times-Courier.

We are going to work to bring you the news of your community, the stories about you and your neighbors. We will continue to be your eyes and ears.

In the interest of how this virus and the measures taken to fight it are affecting our community, we have cut our local subscription rate to $15. We want to give our readers who buy us in the rack the option of receiving us at home through the mail.

To subscribe, call our office or email us at subscription@timescourier.com.

While acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, we also urge you to subscribe, because everyone could use a little extra paper around the house right now.

Second, in the interest of reducing public interactions we are reducing the office hours at the Times-Courier. We will be manning the office and the phones between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. We encourage you to call us or email us for your needs.

Like all small businesses in this community, we are doing our best to navigate through this time.

For advertising please email Susie Peters at speters@timescourier.com or Ted Ensminger at ted@timescourier.com.

For classified ads, email Rhesa Chastain at tcclassifieds@timescourier.com.

If you have news, you can email it to tceditor@timescourier.com or april@timescourier.com.

We will get through this together and as a community. We will work for the safety of our community. We will work to keep you informed.

Thank you for reading. Stay safe.
