American Legion to continue Christmas toy program in drive-thru format

Ellijay’s Ira Cochran American Legion Post 82 will continue an annual holiday program that provides presents for local children, although it will be presented in a different format this year.

People and pets enjoy Santa time

Kids, adults and family pets were able to let Santa know what’s on their Christmas lists during a recent fundraiser for Friends of the Gilmer Animal Shelter (FOGAS), at which Mr. and Mrs. Semper Fi Santa (Jon and Michelle Vigue) set up for photos and visits on the Gilmer Welcome Center lawn.

Money meets the road department

Gilmer County commissioners will hold public comment on the 2021 proposed budget for the county which is heavy on money for road and bridge repair. “The big thing about this year’s budget is what we are going to give the road department,” said Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris.

Young artist Abby Dotson is pictured beside her Christmas mural that decorates the front window of the Faith, Hope and Charity Recycle Store at 449 Industrial Boulevard. Earlier this year, Dotson also created several inspirational murals at the thrift store and other locations in town.

Festival of Trees opens at Gilmer County Library

A longstanding holiday program that follows the transition from the Thanksgiving to Christmas season will brighten the Gilmer County Library through December. However, its opening ceremony will not be held in its typical festive live setting this year.

GHS Theater returns with Goldilocks on Trial

The young actors and actresses of Gilmer High School Theater will have a chance to shine on stage before 2020 draws to a close. The school’s theater department will present Goldilocks on Trial Friday, Dec. 4-Sunday, Dec. 6.  Friday and Saturday shows start at 7 p.m. The Sunday show starts at 1 p.
