Long-term care facilities deal with COVID-19

COVID-19 (coronavirus) has taken a toll on one of Gilmer County’s long-term-care facilities which has been battling an outbreak.
Parkside Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Ellijay hit a peak of infection two weeks ago and is on the other side, according to Tammy Bowling, R.N., B.S.N.

COVID-19 testing moves to county health department

Gilmer’s public health COVID-19 testing is now being done at the county health department, located at 28 Southside Church Street, confirmed representatives from the North Georgia Health District.
Tests were previously administered two to three days a week at the ETC Pavilion on Legion Road.

Local assisted living community Cameron Hall joins the Gilmer Senior Center this holiday season for an outreach effort focused on homebound senior citizens.
A Christmas gift drive is conducted by the Senior Center each year. Donations of clothing and food items are usually collected.

Board moves for alcohol sales at golf course

Gilmer County’s Board of Commissioners voted to advertise a change to sell beer and wine at Whitepath Golf Club.
“It really came about because of all the requests from visitors coming in,” said Gilmer County Chairman Charlie Paris. “It’s getting a good reputation. It’s getting around.
