How to keep Gilmer County from being swamped by new residents was a major topic at a recent Board of Commissioners work session. “Growth is coming,” Chairman Charlie Paris said. “We want to make sure Gilmer County remains a rural agriculture county.

Paul Standard brings 36 years of football coaching experience and a wealth of success to Gilmer High School. Standard, 58, was named Gilmer’s football head coach Jan. 13. He has spent the past week and a half meeting with current assistants, players and getting to know those in the community.

FOGAS begins year with continued spay-neuter efforts

Friends of the Gilmer Animal Shelter (FOGAS) kicked off 2021 by hosting its first reduced cost spay-neuter clinic of the year Friday, Jan 15.  Dr. Craig Chester and the staff of Jasper’s Animal Medical Clinic treated 20 dogs and six cats at the Gilmer County Civic Center.

With a new year underway, the Gilmer Community Food Pantry wants local residents to be aware of the qualifactions that allow eligible persons to receive assistance from the local food bank located at 5273 Highway 52 East.  “There are only two criteria to qualify for food at the pantry.
