East Ellijay council gets first look at next budget

East Ellijay City Councilmembers reviewed the city’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year and approved moving some financial assets when meeting last Wednesday. The city’s all funds budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts July 1, is $2.6 million.

Nine plead guilty in murder case

Nine defendants in a case that involved the murder of a woman in Gilmer County pled guilty to various charges prior to the start date of the Appalachian Superior Court trial. Rossana Delgado, 37, of Barrow County, was abducted by associates of a drug trafficking organization (DTO) in April 2021.

Board approves major paving bid

Gilmer County commissioners approved a $3.389 million bid to pave several roads in the county. Yukon Road proved to be the biggest ticket item on the list coming in at $2.7 million. The bid went to Colditz Trucking Inc. which came in with the lowest bid.

America’s fallen military men and women will be saluted at a community Memorial Day service Monday, May 29. The service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Bridge and Garden (located at the south end of River Park on South Main Street) beginning at 11 a.m.
