Superintendent Dr. Brian Ridley’s contract was extended for three years following a 3-2 board vote. The extension was presented to the Gilmer County Board of Education at the end of its July regular meeting last Thursday.
Board member Michael Bramlett made the motion to renew Ridley’s contract, and it was seconded by Jacob Callihan. Board chairman Doug Pritchett, Bramlett and Callihan all voted in favor of the renewal. Board vice chairman Michael Parks and member Joe Pflueger voted against.
Ridley’s annual salary is $153,816.30, which will be paid in equal monthly installments.
“Increases in salary or benefits may be negotiated with or granted by the Board at any time but will be discussed each year at the time of the superintendent’s evaluation,” Ridley’s contract states. “The Superintendent shall receive a percentage increase in his salary equal to any percentage increase received by teachers in the Gilmer County School District.”
Multiple attempts to contact both Parks and Pflueger for comment were not returned by Tuesday’s press deadline.
