FOGAS to present Woofstock pet party

Peace signs will be plentiful among pet owners and their pals when Friends of the Gilmer Animal Shelter (FOGAS) present their Woofstock pet party Saturday, April 13.  The Woofstock festivities will be centered in the courthouse parking lot on Broad and Dalton Street starting at 10 a.m.

Car club gets rolling with cruise-ins

Ellijay’s charitable car club will be lining up the hot rods and popping the hoods when the club’s run of spring/summer cruise-ins gets rolling this week.  The Apple Country Auto Club will start its 2024 cruise-ins Friday, April 12. They will be held the second Friday of each month until September.

The Earth Day Fair sponsored by Coosawattee River Resort (CRR) will return to Ellijay’s River Park Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Earth Day is observed the following Monday, April 22.

Problems with courthouse HVAC

Gilmer County Commissioners have authorized an emergency expenditure of $685,000 to fix the control system for the HVAC system at the courthouse. Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris said the current control system installed during the winter of 2023 was installed by Runyan and Associates.

Gilmer should have good view of solar eclipse

Gilmer County may be able to see more than three-fourths of the full magnitude of an upcoming total solar eclipse — but that’s only a prediction.  The eclipse will take place  Monday, April 8.

Water authority board OKs plant repair projects

Members of the Ellijay- Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority approved a couple of expenses for pending repair projects at the water and wastewater treatment plants when meeting last week. One expense was for an overhaul of a worn influent pump at the wastewater treatment plant.

Bee club hopes to reach next generation of keepers

Two young aspiring beekeepers are getting hands-on experience tending hives with guidance from a local beekeeping club.  The Beekeepers of Gilmer County recently adopted their first family as part of the club’s effort to interest younger generations in beekeeping.
