Gilmer is still without any candidates for its next county surveyor.  Nobody qualified as a candidate for surveyor during the recent primary election qualifying period, which ran March 4-8.

East Ellijay Aldi sets opening date

Gilmer County will soon have a new option for its grocery needs as an Aldi supermarket is slated to open in East Ellijay next week. Aldi announced the store, located off Howard Simmons Road at 24 West Highlands Drive, will officially open Thursday, March 28, at 8:45 a.m.

Investigation leads to arrests in multiple counties

(By Glenn Harbison, News-Observer) — An investigation that was started in Fannin County approximately 18 months ago resulted in four arrests, the seizure of 18 kilos of methamphetamine valued on the street at $5,760,001, and other property worth over $200,000.

Health department’s vaccination efforts recognized

Staff members of the Gilmer County Health Department were recently recognized for their vaccination efforts in the community during 2023.  The local public health facility was among two Georgia health departments that received the Walt Orenstein Champions for Immunization Award.

Historical museum set for new season

Gilmer County’s only historical museum will open for its 2024 season this week.  The Tabor House Museum, located at 138 Spring Street, is set to open to the public Thursday, March 21. It will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Three qualify for BOC Post 1 race

  Several incumbents and a handful of new candidates have qualified for the upcoming county primary election.  The qualifying period ran through Monday, March 4- Friday, March 8.
