The Earth Day Fair sponsored by Coosawattee River Resort (CRR) will return to Ellijay’s River Park Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Earth Day is observed the following Monday, April 22. Last year was the first outing for the environmentally-themed event, which features vendors and educational activities for kids and adults. Like last year, the Earth Day Fair will be free to attend and open to the public, confirmed Michele Kellogg, CRR lifestyles director.
“It’s a good way to put us out into the community with something that’s educational and fun to do,” said Kellogg.
The event will be centered around the theme of reducing waste and reusing existing materials, noted Kellogg.
“It’s to educate the community about waste and the effects that waste has on our towns and counties and the impact it has at a global level. We’ve added more vendors this year, and some of our vendors will have crafts that are repurposed,” she added.
A plant sale hosted by the Gilmer Master Gardeners will also be part of this year’s lineup, while a kids corner will provide various hands-on, educational activities for youngsters.
“It’s fun for all ages,”said Kellogg. “They can learn how to plant (seeds), dig for worms and learn about ladybugs or how to protect wildlife,” Kellogg said.
The Earth Day Fair is part of a growing event series presented by the local gated community, Kellogg noted.
“We also do our pickin’ (live music) series, and last year we did the Back to School Bash. We’re trying to give back to the community,” she added.
