Volunteers from the Gilmer Historical Society who operate the Tabor House Museum are proud to have recently received a donation of needed items from the East Ellijay Lowe’s store.

Military vehicle display a special addition for Ellijay legion post

Members of Ellijay’s Ira Cochran American Legion are proud to now have an actual military vehicle on display outside the local legion post.  The M59 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) was donated to the legion post by Rich Howard, a local collector of vintage automobiles and military vehicles.

Community Paramedicine Team joins health department in COVID-19 testing

Over the past few days the Community Paramedicine Team, consisting of Mary Fuller (RN, EMT) and Ron Cheslock (FF, EMT), have joined forces with the Gilmer County Health Department at the local COVID-19 testing site. Last week the site tested about 500 individuals, and another 150 recently.

Virus spike continues in Gilmer

Gilmer County added 103 cases to its COVID-19 (coronavirus) count between July 13 and July 20. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health website, Gilmer County climbed to 360 confirmed coronavirus cases as of July 20. It is a significant increase for a county this size.

GHSA postpones football season two weeks

The high school football season is still intact, but it will take two extra weeks to get there. The Georgia High School Association’s Board of Trustees convened Monday and unanimously approved the vote to postpone the football season by two weeks. The regular season is now slated to begin Sept. 4.

Accident blocks Hwy. 515

A multi-vehicle accident on Highway 515 on Friday, July 10, at 10:30 a.m. snarled traffic on Highway 515 for several hours as rescue crews worked to free passengers and remove the vehicles. At least one person was life-flighted from the scene. Additional details were unavailable at press time.
