CCES construction on track

Clear Creek Elementary School is on schedule to welcome students and staff at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year. Charles Black Construction (CBC) has served as the construction manager at risk, and Allen Mauney has filled the role of project manager.

County fair will return in August

The Ellijay Lions Club is glad to announce that the Gilmer County Fair will be coming back to town this year following a cancellation of the popular summer event in 2020 due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s fair will take place Aug.

Gilmer cannery to open June 22

While closings and limited hours became the norm at many places last year, the Gilmer County Cannery actually experienced some of its best attendance to date. “We had better numbers last year than we’d ever had,” said Young Farmer Teacher Mike Bushey.

Water plant earns 13th consecutive quality award

Staff of the Cartecay Water Treatment Plant are proud to have recently received their 13 consecutive water quality award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP).

Car club to restart cruise-ins this month

Members of a local charitable car club are gearing up to restart an activity that’s been on the backburner for nearly two years.  The Apple Country Auto Club will restart its monthly cruise-ins this month at a new site, Poole’s Bar-B-Q in East Ellijay. Cruise-ins will be held there from 5-8 p.m.

Beekeepers, hives busy as summer rolls in

As spring fades into summer, the Beekeepers of Gilmer County are busy -—- although perhaps not quite as active as the well-populated hives they tend. “This is when it kicks into gear.

Broken Pleasant Valley Baptist Church sign a mystery

A distinctive marble church sign at Pleasant Valley Baptist in eastern Gilmer County has been broken for months, and no one knows how it happened. Clifford Elliott, a deacon at the church, said it occurred sometime last year following a weather event.
