The new year is already off to a strong start for the Habitat For Humanity chapter that serves Gilmer County.

An Ellijay couple won’t be missing any episodes of “Ghosts,” a popular CBS sitcom still in its first season. That’s because their daughter, Sheila Carrasco, is part of the ensemble cast that helped make “Ghosts” the fall 2021 TV season’s most-watched new comedy, according to CBS.

Discarded Christmas trees will soon be used to improve bank fishing opportunities at Carters Lake. Members of Keep Gilmer Beautiful (KGB) joined Carters Lake personnel for a Jan. 8 Christmas tree recycling event at the East Ellijay Lowe’s.

As of 6:00 p.m. today, Tuesday January 25, 2022, the Ellijay-Gilmer County Water & Sewerage Authority (Authority) is lifting the Boiled Water Advisory issued on Monday January 24, 2022. The Boil Water Advisory was issued due to a water main break on Legion Road in Ellijay.

The Gilmer County School System has gone virtual. The district keeps a constant tab on its positive COVID-19 cases, and those numbers began to climb for staff members. By last Friday, more than 60 staff members were absent and action needed to be taken.

Although Gilmer County experienced what many would consider a minor amount of wintry precipitation late Sunday and early Monday morning, heavy wind gusts that ushered in snow and sleet brought down trees leading to widespread power outages.
