A young man whose life was forever changed by a medical emergency that resulted in amputation of both his legs is determined to push forward, while also being of service to others.  Christopher Adams, 20, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 16.

In two town hall style meetings looking for solutions to road problems in Gilmer County, Commissioner Charlie Paris offered a possible solution of his own — a TSPLOST. Paris called the two meetings, one Wednesday at 6 p.m. and one Saturday at 10 a.m.

Votes have been tallied in the Gilmer County Special Election, and the county has a new Post 1 commissioner. Hubert Parker was elected to post commissioner for the county with 63.7 percent of the vote. He tallied 1,360 votes.

Gilmer’s Jason Smith and Cassie Pritchett have been selected to join a group of parents and students who will provide input to state superintendent Richard Woods. Smith is one of 30 parents from across the state who will serve on the state superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC).
