Gilmer contracts with new waste company

After more than a decade, Gilmer County is going to have a new trash hauler, along with some new equipment. This year, commissioners opted to put out a request for proposals for trash hauling in Gilmer County. In the end, three companies sent proposals to the county.

Gilmer County’s five-year comprehensive plan will be getting a review. Gilmer Chair Charlie Paris asked commissioners to approve a review at a special meeting on Nov. 30. “I think we are in a whole different time now, different situation,” he said.

Water authority plans further extension in Roundtop area

When meeting Tuesday,  Nov. 30, the Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority board approved steps toward an upcoming project that will further extend the water system in the Roundtop Road area.

The Gilmer County Animal Shelter will soon be ringing in the holiday season, and everyone’s invited to the special Christmas open house. The Christmas at the Shelter event will take place Friday, Dec. 17, 1-4 p.m., at the Gilmer County Animal Shelter, 4152 Highway 52 East.

Stabbing suspect still at large

(By Angela Reinhardt, Pickens Progress) — The Ellijay man charged with stabbing another man at a restaurant in Jasper earlier this month is still at large, with authorities urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact 911.

Video scoreboards coming soon

If everything goes as planned, Gilmer High School will soon have some swanky video scoreboards in its gym and at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. Director of human resources and facilities Dana Berry shared some updates on the projects at the Gilmer County Board of Education’s Nov. 15 work session.
