Community chorus to hold spring concert auditions

A local community chorus will soon resume live performances, and additional voices are needed for its spring concert. The Gilmer Arts Community Chorus will hold auditions and chorus section placement Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse. Auditions begin at 6:30 p.m.

Pepsi plant drive brings needed items to food pantry

A holiday food drive led by Ellijay’s Pepsi distribution plant brought a truckload of needed items to the Gilmer Community Food Pantry last week.

Sights set on senior scammers

Joe Gavalis was speaking at a seminar in a north Georgia town on scams targeting seniors when he noticed one attendee was becoming tearful. “She came up afterward and was crying,” said Gavalis, a retired federal agent who spent a career fighting organized crime and labor racketeering.

An Ellijay man who just wrapped his busiest season of the year puts his all into being Santa. Von Redman, who’s a member of the Peachtree Santas, North Georgia Santas and the International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santas, sometimes works up to three engagements a day in December.

Preliminary mobile home digest up almost $5 million

The Gilmer County Board of Tax Assessors approved a preliminary version of the county’s 2022 Prebill Mobile Home Digest during its final meeting of 2021 last Thursday.  The preliminary mobile home digest total of $34.
