Some freeze damage to fruit crops expected, but extent not known

Local apple and peach crops may have been damaged to some degree by a recent cold snap with temperatures in the teens and 20s, but it’s too early to know how much, the county’s extension agent said last week.

Bridge construction set for December 2022

Gilmer County has received information the construction of a new Lower Cartecay Bridge may begin by the end of this year. The schedule to let bids and begin construction has been changed several times in the years since the bridge was first closed in April 2017.

New stop signs will be going up at a much-travelled intersection in downtown Ellijay. When meeting Monday, March 21, the Ellijay City Council approved taking steps to make the intersection of North Main Street, North Avenue and College Street an all-way stop.
