Car show set for first Apple Festival Saturday

Gilmer County’s Apple Country Auto Club will steer its biggest annual event at a new location this year. The club will hold its Apple Classic Auto Show Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Vehicle registration will be from 8 a.m.-noon.

Kool Breeze Band blows into playhouse Oct. 7

A seven-piece group will be playing it “kool” when they bring their slick jazz-rock sounds to the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse. The Kool Breeze Band featuring Jim Richter will perform at the 135 Dalton Street venue Friday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.

Assessor board urges state-level talk on sales ratios

The Gilmer Board of Tax Assessors is urging county commissioners to contact state legislators about criteria the Georgia Departments of Audits (GDOA) uses to determine property sales ratios.

The Gilmer County School System kept students fed over the summer with the help of selfless volunteers. Seamless Summer offered free meals to those 18 and under during all of June plus two weeks in July.

Apple Festival’s setup, admission prices going up

As the 51st annual Georgia Apple Festival approaches, the Gilmer Chamber and Ellijay Lions Club will soon build an event resembling a small city on the Lions Fairgrounds. As with most building projects today, inflation and price increases are impacting the festival set for Saturday and Sunday, Oct.
