Community Thanksgiving feast returning to First Baptist

A community Thanksgiving feast that’s been on hold the past two years will return to the Ellijay First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Saturday, Nov. 19. The early Thanksgiving dinner presented by Faith, Hope and Charity will last from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. “We will be serving until the food runs out.

Veterans Day parade, program moves to GHS gym due to inclement weather

**Due to rain, Gilmer County's community Veterans Day program will be held at the Gilmer High School Gym today. There will be no parade. The program will start at 11 a.m. Those participating in the event should be in place by 10:30 a.m.

Speaker David Ralston announced he will not seek the nomination for Speaker of the House for the 2023-2024 legislative session. He will still serve as the State Representative for the 7th House district for the 2023-2024 legislative session if elected in the November election.

Early voting ‘more than normal’ for midterm election

As voters took to the polls to cast their ballots Tuesday, almost 8,000 Gilmer County residents had already voted early in the 2022 midterm election either in person or by mail. As of Monday afternoon, Gilmer County’s final numbers for early voting, which started Oct. 17 and ended Nov.

Veterans Day 2022

After Ray Postell arrived in Vietnam, a sergeant called out his name along with several others and told them they would be going on temporary duty to Saigon to unload ships.

The Gilmer County Board of Education has been recognized by the state for the second year in a row. The Georgia School Board Association (GSBA)recognized Gilmer the distinction of a “2022 Quality School Board.

East Ellijay unchanged in subdivision road access request

The East Ellijay City Council and Mayor Mack West remain unchanged in their decision to not give road access to a subdivision being planned off Progress Road. West and councilmembers previously reviewed plans for the Gilmer Village subdivision in July.
