Light Up Ellijay is Friday

For the second year in a row, the popular Light Up Ellijay festival, capped with the lighting of the Christmas tree on the square, will be the day after Thanksgiving on Friday.

No private concerts at Harrison Park, yet

Whether to allow a for-profit company to close Harrison Park and charge admission for a concert was a point of discussion for the Ellijay City Council. Councilmember Tom Crawford had asked for an exception to the Harrison Park rules for a May 10 concert to be put on the agenda at the Nov.

Holiday Lights of Ellijay in its second year

Need to walk off the traditional Thanksgiving meal laden with thousands of calories? Go no farther than the Lions Club Fairgrounds, where the ongoing Holiday Lights of Ellijay is in its second year with proceeds going to a worthy cause. The walk-thru display lasts until New Year’s Eve on Dec.

Kindergarteners at Clear Creek Middle school donned their festive hats and had a snack to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Gilmer County Schools are closed the week of Thanksgiving.

Warming Center volunteers needed

Cold weather is finally here and we are in desperate need of people who are willing to help man the Warming Center.  We are required to have 1 male and 1 female volunteer each night the Center is open (anytime the temperature will be 32 degrees or lower more hours of the night than not).

Death resulted from drug deal

An eighth person was indicted and charged in what law enforcement officials say began as a drug deal and ended in a death. “Basically this case boils down to a drug deal and a robbery gone bad,” Sheriff Stacy Nicholson said. “The message we are sending is everyone involved is being charged.
