Everyone can now be tested for COVID-19 (coronavirus), with or without symptoms, following Gov. Brian Kemp’s announcement last Thursday. Gov. Kemp opened the gates wide at a press conference May 7.

Gilmer Schools face cuts

The economic impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic will force state agencies to make significant budgetary cuts. Gov. Brian Kemp’s budget office and members of the Georgia General Assembly’s budgetary committees contacted state agencies May 1, which included all K-12 public schools.

FOGAS leading special pet food program

Friends of the Gilmer Animal Shelter (FOGAS) are leading an effort to deliver free pet food to those in need, while reminding the general public that donations of pet supplies for the local animal shelter are still being accepted.

Gilmer County awarded federal funds

Gilmer County has been chosen to receive $12,000 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. The selection was made by a national board chaired by the U.S.

Recycle store takes steps toward reopening

The volunteer staff of a philanthropic Ellijay thrift store hopes to soon welcome customers back to shop, although an official reopening date has not been determined.
