Fundraiser set for elderly man who lost home in fire

A fundraising effort is being done to prevent an elderly Ellijay man from becoming homeless after losing his camper and vehicle in a recent fire. Kenneth Cameron, 73, had lived in the camper at the Coosawattee River Resort Campground until it was destroyed in a fire earlier this year.

During the week of May 7-13,2013, the Ellijay-Gilmer County Water & Sewerage Authority (Authority) experienced an issue at the Authority’s Wastewater Treatment Plant which would constitute a spill according to Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA EPD) guidelines.

County selects contractor for bridges

Gilmer County commissioners agreed to hire a contractor for the Rock Creek Road bridge projects. Charles Wells Services Inc. was given the contract for $1.2 million to place box culverts to replace the two bridges at a special called meeting May 25.

Assessment notices show base cost hike for third straight year

As many Gilmer County property owners receive their assessment notices this week, it’s almost certain they will see an increase from last year’s values. The Gilmer Assessors Office mailed out 34,459 real property assessment notices on May 23.
