Nine plead guilty in murder case

Nine defendants in a case that involved the murder of a woman in Gilmer County pled guilty to various charges prior to the start date of the Appalachian Superior Court trial. Rossana Delgado, 37, of Barrow County, was abducted by associates of a drug trafficking organization (DTO) in April 2021.

Board approves major paving bid

Gilmer County commissioners approved a $3.389 million bid to pave several roads in the county. Yukon Road proved to be the biggest ticket item on the list coming in at $2.7 million. The bid went to Colditz Trucking Inc. which came in with the lowest bid.

America’s fallen military men and women will be saluted at a community Memorial Day service Monday, May 29. The service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Bridge and Garden (located at the south end of River Park on South Main Street) beginning at 11 a.m.

Gilmer FFA members celebrate big year at awards banquet

Members of the Gilmer High and Clear Creek Middle School FFA chapters looked back at an eventful year filled with high points, while bidding a fond farewell to graduating seniors, during the club’s annual banquet last Thursday at the Gilmer County Agriculture Education Center.

‘Getting ready for tomorrow’

Gilmer County Fire and Rescue is looking to hire up to 16 new firefighter/EMTs with the next leg of its paid new recruit training academy. At two open houses last week, prospective applicants got a feel for what will be expected of them if they’re accepted into the program.

Turning 100 with a smile

Ellijay’s Nell Copeland had some simple words of wisdom about recently reaching her 100th birthday. “I really don’t have a secret. As long as you do right and have good thoughts and love everybody, I have always tried to do that,” she said.
