Potential for scams abundant in digital age

Approaches may vary, but there’s something phone, mail and online scams need to be successful.

Dry ground, high temperatures increasing potential for wildfires

With weeks of daytime temperature in the 90-degree range, it’s not tough to imagine the summer and early fall of 2019 in Georgia going down as — if not one of the hottest — one of the driest periods in recent memory.

EARS one of county’s hidden assets, resources

Becoming a member of the Ellijay Amateur Radio Society (EARS) and Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  My reasons for doing so go far beyond wanting to learn how to operate a ham radio.

For the love of animals

Over the last few years, the Gilmer County Animal Shelter has seen both a dramatic decrease in its euthanasia rates and an increase in the number of adopted dogs and cats.

During hyperphagia, it’s more important to be ‘bear wise’!

A fed bear is a dead bear! This axiom is not referring to a black bear eating acorns, berries, larvae, insects or even honey. It is referring to the intentional and often unintentional food, known as attractants, which humans provide each and every day to black bears.

Seized horses have cost Cherokee County $25K

Murphy – Cherokee County taxpayers are on the hook for more than $25,000 to care for horses seized in an animal cruelty case. The latest invoice approved by county commissioners on Tuesday, Sept.
