As spring emerges, so do hungry bears

The Appalachia Georgia Friends of the Bears would like to remind the public that the beginning of March is time for the black bears to emerge from den.  The first to wake up are the adult males and subadults in early to mid-March.

New Aska Trail section in works for cyclists, hikers

The 9.5-mile Aska New Trail Project (Fruitkof portion) on Lake Blue Ridge in Fannin County has gained approval to proceed from the U.S. Forest Service’s Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Blue Ridge Ranger District.

The shadows are long, the air is cool and the trees have given up their last leaves. It is almost time for the Appalachia Georgia black bears to go into den for their long winter nap. Our bears generally den from late December through April.

The Northeast Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross marked a decade of successful blood drives at the Elljay Lions Club by continuing to collect, while thanking those who donate with a community appreciation event Thursday, Nov. 14.
