Light Up Ellijay a two-parter this year

This year, downtown Ellijay’s “Light Up” festivities will cover two days starting the day after Thanksgiving.  The traditional lighting of the town Christmas tree, which was put up last week on the square, will be done Friday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m.

Countywide burn ban extended

A countywide ban on outdoor burning has been extended another week. The burn ban was first issued for Nov. 6-Nov. 20. It will now remain in effect till Nov. 27, at which time it could possibly be extended again if dry conditions don’t improve.

After-Thanksgiving concert to feature Cable, Surrender Hill

An Atlanta singer/songwriter is looking forward to returning to Ellijay to play a show that’s become something of an after-Thanksgiving tradition for a local group. John Cable will open for Ellijay’s Surrender Hill at the group’s Thanksgiving weekend concert at the George Link Jr.

The Tuesday, Nov. 7, municipal election brought no changes to the governmental structure of East Ellijay.  In the race for mayor, incumbent Mayor Don Callihan, who received 101 votes, prevailed by a wide margin over challenger Thomas Ocobock, who received 12 votes.

By Glenn Harbison, News-Observerm — The drug trade across north Georgia suffered a crippling blow last Wednesday, Nov. 8, when law enforcement officers from five agencies seized nearly 35 pounds of methamphetamine and two pounds of marijuana from a Fannin County residence.
