Water authority board OKs plant repair projects

Members of the Ellijay- Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority approved a couple of expenses for pending repair projects at the water and wastewater treatment plants when meeting last week.
One expense was for an overhaul of a worn influent pump at the wastewater treatment plant.

Two young aspiring beekeepers are getting hands-on experience tending hives with guidance from a local beekeeping club.
The Beekeepers of Gilmer County recently adopted their first family as part of the club’s effort to interest younger generations in beekeeping.

CLCC adding extra day to Clothes Closet schedule

A clothes closet operated by members of Cherry Log Christian Church (CLCC) will soon be open an extra day each week so that more folks who need its services can take advantage.
Currently, The Clothes Closet is open to the public just one day a week, on Thursdays, from noon-3 p.m.

The Gilmer Arts Gallery recently celebrated National Youth Art Month with an exhibit that includes artwork from the county’s five public schools and North Georgia Christian Academy.

Best-selling novelist to speak at library meeting

The Friends of the Gilmer County Library (FOGL) will welcome a best-selling novelist to speak at its upcoming annual meeting.
The group of local library boosters only meets once a year, and those meetings are always open to the public, confirmed Nan Flickinger, FOGL president.

Because he had spent time in electronics school in St. Petersburg, Fla., Jim Kilburn was assigned to a radar unit within an artillery brigade when he arrived in Vietnam. He and a friend had joined the U.S. Army together in 1968.
