Joint comprehensive plan update underway

A five-year update of the Joint Comprehensive Plan for Gilmer County and the cities of Ellijay and East Ellijay is taking shape.

When DeAnn Golden drove her mother, Brenda Sailors Blanton, around Ellijay recently, she was surprised at how much her mom remembered about growing up here in the 1940s-50s.

County network restored after cyberattack

The Gilmer County government has been able to move past a March cyberattack on its computer network, but there are still some technological components to be replaced as the county also explores ways to strengthen its protection against future ransomware threats.

Ferguson wins runoff for BOC Post 1

Karleen Ferguson, a former Gilmer County commissioner, will return to the board next year following the June 18 runoff election. Formerly a Post 2 commissioner, Ferguson won the runoff for Post 1 commissioner, which resulted from the May 21 primary election.

Ellijay council first-reads cryptomining ordinance

Ellijay City Councilmembers gave the first reading of an ordinance regulating cryptocurrency mining and took no action on the second reading of an ordinance to add a new restaurant to the city’s alcohol consumption zone when meeting Monday, June 17.

Ferguson wins primary runoff

Karleen Ferguson has won the runoff primary race against Doug Rink for Gilmer County Post 1 Commissioner. Ferguson garnered 1,811 votes overall to Rink’s 1,456. She will stand as the Republican candidate for the office in the November election. There is no Democrat challenger.
