Students charged with threats

Four Gilmer County students have been charged with felony terroristic threats for two separate incidents which occurred at local schools. One student was of elementary school age. “We have to take any threat to our students seriously,” said Gilmer County Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Ridley.

Need for new ambulances a concern for Gilmer Fire

The need for new ambulances is becoming  a growing concern for Gilmer Fire and Rescue. The overall call volume for the fire department has increased by about 10 percent this year, and transport times to medical facilities are often long, putting additional miles on the vehicles.

Food pantry awarded new equipment

Moving heavy pallets is now a little easier for volunteers at the Gilmer Community Food Pantry. The local food pantry was one of 58 hunger relief organizations in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama chosen to receive a motorized pallet jack at no cost.
