BoE approves to turf GHS baseball field for $1.2 million

The Gilmer County Board of Education approved a $1.2 million dollar  project that will need to begin soon. Last Wednesday’s called meeting was to discuss the possible replacement of Gilmer High baseball field’s natural playing surface with artificial turf.

Scammers asking for gift cards

Has someone called you and asked you to buy a gift card? You might be the target of a scam. “I would recommend that no one ever pays anyone who calls them,” said Captain Frank Copeland of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office. “Do not give money to people who ask for it.

Gilmer spared severe damage

Unlike many Georgia counties, Gilmer County avoided severe damaged from Hurricane Helene. Along with several north Georgia counties, it was originally in the path of the storm, which veered to the right after making landfall Thursday and reaching Georgia early Friday.

Bradford pears removed from East Ellijay median by state

The median of Highway 515 in East Ellijay headed out of town is looking bare with the recent removal of Bradford pear trees that have been a pleasing sight for many the past few decades.

Ellijay to curb speeding

The Ellijay City Council voted in favor of two speed reduction measures. The action came at a meeting Monday, Sept. 16 — lowering speed limits on a stretch of North Main Street/Old Highway 5 and installing speed reducing devices on North Avenue.
