Funding freeze impacts local farmers

Amid the Trump administration’s freeze on federal funding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been unable to award most of their grant money, and local farmers are feeling the impact.

Staffing issues continue to hurt local restaurants

Customers hungry for a bite to eat are being met with signs on restaurant doors reading that they’re hiring, or they can’t open during certain hours. This is because local and chain restaurants across Gilmer are short staffed.

Apartment zoning application submitted

The owner of a plot of land near Appalachian Beverage is now applying to build an apartment complex on it. This comes after East Ellijay city council members voted to approve the deannexation of that property from the city to the county at a meeting on Feb. 27.

Power outages, school closures caused by severe storm

Extreme weather and wind overnight Tuesday, March 4, left a mess across Gilmer County, resulting in schools closing their doors Wednesday.
