Outdoor lighting which shines into a neighbors’ window or yard may soon run afoul of a proposed Gilmer County ordinance. An ordinance entitled Outdoor Lighting and Glare Standards will receive a public hearing Thursday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m.

On Independence Day, Gilmer celebrated several nonprofits in its Fourth of July Parade. A nation’s ideals can be seen in how it treats its most vulnerable citizens, and Gilmer showed it values them greatly.

BoE approves local supplement increase

The county’s educators will see a little more money in their monthly paycheck while coaches at Gilmer High will be rewarded for postseason berths and advancement. The Gilmer County Board of Education unanimously approved all pay increases and bonuses at its June regular meeting.

Gilmer scenery to be part of “The Good Daughter” show

Murder, home invasions and violence came to Gilmer County last week, but in the form of filming for a new psychological thriller show soon to release on Peacock. “The Good Daughter” is based on a Karin Slaughter novel of the same name.

Bear and cubs leave shelter hiking area

A mother bear with cubs is one of the most protective animals in nature.  Recent reports suggest one with two cubs has moved on from the hiking shelter on Springer Mountain. “Obviously, we’ll be monitoring the situation,” Georgia State Bear Biologist Adam Hammond said.
