Snacks for deputies
For first responders, Sept. 11 is an important anniversary.
“It brings home the reality that sometimes horrible tragedies can happen, whether it’s something on the level of 9/11 or this weekend when this officer was shot,” Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Captain Frank Copeland said.
This year on the anniversary, United Community Bank and the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) showed their appreciation for first responders by giving them food to eat while on shift.
These snacks included potato chips, trail mix, crackers and other packaged foods that keep well in a car, Copeland said.
“They’ve got a few packs of grits because it’s the South,” he said.
Sometimes on long and busy shifts, it can be hard for law enforcement officers to grab a meal, Copeland said.
Gifts of food like this one can be a big help.
“Having something in the car with you to drink or some food to snack on that can hold you over is very handy,” he said.
United Community and DFACS often drop-off food for first responders.
“We are happy to be working in a community that feels that way. And we do everything that we can do to foster that continued support from the community,” he said.
