Electric issues caused problems
Over two days, Gilmer County experienced three traffic light outages at major intersections.
The traffic light at the intersection of GA 515 and First Avenue went out Sept. 8.
It went out again Sept. 9.
The traffic light at the intersection of GA 282 and South Main Street went out Sept. 9.
These outages are not related, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Communications Officer Joe Schulman said.
“There’s nothing related to the two signals being out. The one on 515 was due to an electrical issue that has since been resolved,” he said. “The other one also was an electrical issue but was a power failure that has also since been resolved.”
These intersections are two of Gilmer County’s busiest ones.
In the aftermath of the outages, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) provided alerts warning drivers to be careful and treat the broken light like a four-way stop.
“If one more light quits, we’re officially starting a ‘Red Light Support Group,’” the GCSO joked in a press release.
