To the people of Gilmer County, my name is Penney Andruski and I am running for tax commissioner.

I have been a longtime resident of Gilmer County for well over 20 years and this is my home. I am engaged to a local builder Glenn Sanborn, owner of Southern Craft Construction. I spent the last two years working for the Department of Community Supervision in the Gilmer Courthouse before I decided that it was time to put my energy into something more. I was born in Suffolk County on the North Fork of Long Island and then moved to Florida as a young teenager. Although I have moved back several times over those 20 years for different reasons, I have always found my way back home to Ellijay.

I first moved to Georgia in the early ’90s and went to work for a few companies in Dawsonville and Pickens County in the administrative field where I discovered my passion for working with the public. I loved working alongside these entrepreneurs who taught me their craft in the business world from the entry position up to the executive level. This is where I learned what it takes to work with boards and committees, hiring and training staff, the importance of budgets and all the inner workings necessary to keep the business running.

The passion for my community dates back to the late ’90s when I first came to live in Ellijay. I went to work for several of the local businesses over the years and discovered that the people of Gilmer County were very welcoming and many of them have become my best friends, business associates and colleagues. With their encouragement, I started my own garden business and ran that for 10 years. During that time, I was very involved in the community. I gave countless hours volunteering with local groups such as the Garden Club, the Gilmer County Saddle Club, the Craddock Center and the Downtown Development Authority. I also served as a board member for the Gilmer Chamber of Commerce, and I am a graduate of the Leadership Gilmer class of 2015 -2016.

What motivated me to run for tax commissioner is the need for a change within our tax commissioner’s office. One of my goals is to bring back the “welcome” and a positive environment for the staff and the people of Gilmer County who walk through those doors. I will emphasize a friendly and courteous atmosphere to the public and seek to improve the quality and image of this public office. I would also like to work with the assessor’s office to provide documentation about the assessor’s process and to provide the public with a clear and better understanding about their property taxes. I will put my two decades of business experience to work for the people of Gilmer County and give them back their tax office.

I feel that all of my attributes make me a great candidate for tax commissioner and I will put my business experiences, leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit back into my community that has given so much to me over the years. I will work hard from day one to ensure that all the people of Gilmer County are treated fairly and with respect.

I ask for your support and your vote on May 19, 2020.
