Crash closes Gilmer County runway

No major injuries were reported following a airplane crash at the Gilmer County airport. The call about the crash came in at 3 p.m. Oct. 5, said Keith Kucera, Gilmer County Public Safety director. Firetrucks are currently on scene where the airplane ended up on its roof.

Drive-thru flu shot totals up in North Georgia Health District

A total of 140 flu shots were given during a drive-thru clinic conducted by the Gilmer County Health Department Tuesday, Sept. 22.  This year’s total number vaccinated represents 60 more flu shots than were given during last year’s drive-thru event at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Pilgrim’s pledges to invest $535K into local community

Pilgrim’s, the home company of the local poultry processing plant, has pledged to invest $535,000 in Ellijay and the local community via the company’s new Hometown Strong initiative.  According to information provided by the Pilgrim’s home office in Greeley, Colo.

Less than half of Gilmer County has responded to the U.S. Census count. In 2010, Gilmer County had a response rate of 46 percent, according to the website 2020Census.gov. This year, the county has a response rate which is marginally better at 46.9 percent.

Gilmer Arts was proud to host the sixth annual Plein Air: Art in the Mountains this past weekend. Regional artists were working outdoors, or “en plein air,” in and around Gilmer County over a three-day weekend that began Friday, Sept. 18, and ended Sunday, Sept. 20.
