One-act play is theater department’s last production this year
The young actors and actresses of Gilmer High School Theater will have a chance to shine on stage before 2020 draws to a close.
The school’s theater department will present Goldilocks on Trial Friday, Dec. 4-Sunday, Dec. 6.
Friday and Saturday shows start at 7 p.m. The Sunday show starts at 1 p.m. All shows will be held at the Linda Miller Theater inside GHS. Admission is $5.
The show’s director, James Fuller, said the one-act play is a funny children’s production that adults can also enjoy.
“It’s a courtroom comedy that’s exactly what it sounds like. Goldilocks broke into the three bears’ house, now they’re suing her for property damage,” he added. “House at Pooh Corner was a show where you brought your kids so they could have fun. This is a show where you bring your kids and you will have fun, too.”
With GHS Theater’s spring and fall seasons sidelined by the COVID-19 pandemic, Goldilocks on Trial is the department’s only production this school semester and the last one of the 2020 calendar year, Fuller noted.
“Our typical year is we have a fall one-act show, usually around November, then we have our February winter show, which is normally a two or three-act production. Then we typically do our big musical in the spring. This year, for a lot of different reasons, we decided to do something different. We’re going to do this show and a musical for the second semester and that will be our whole year,” he said.
Fuller said the play runs under an hour and its cast features both returning and first-time talent.
“So many of my returning actors are doing online (school) this year, so we had to recruit a lot of new students. I would say over half of this cast is actually first-time actors,” he added.
Seating will be managed differently for the production, and audience members are highly encouraged to wear a face mask, noted Fuller.
“When they come in, they can go where they normally get tickets. They will then be escorted with the group they come with and seated by one of our student ushers. Groups of people or people by themselves will be seated at least two seat lengths apart. The first two rows from the stage will be no seating,” he added.
The spring production has not been decided yet, but is being planned for sometime in May.
“We’ll be making that decision pretty soon,” said Fuller.
