Lengthy installation of new water line in downtown Ellijay reached River Street last week. Above, crews install pipe on River Street to join what’s already been put down along Church Street. The entire water main will run from South Main Street to just before the bridge on River Street. There is also about 300 feet of piping left to be installed on West Spring Street, and all trenches that have been cut in the pavement for fire hydrant connections will have to be paved over before the project is complete. Once all the piping has been installed and tested, water service will be tied over to the new line, noted Gary McVey, water authority director.
