Board hears comments on Turniptown Road

Landowners and people who use an upper portion of Turniptown Road are at odds about Gilmer County abandoning the road. According to comments, the portion being discussed runs from the Hemlock’s gate to the Lanning Family Cemetery, where the road ends.

Uptick in commercial activity for East Ellijay

Business is booming in East Ellijay, where commercial activity includes new stores and restaurants recently opening or planning to soon. The city has seen an uptick in new business construction over the past couple of years, according to the East Ellijay city planning office.

The Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority board heard updates on several current projects, including one on South Main Street that posed an obstacle for motorists during recent storms, when the board met last week.

A Gilmer County native who’s long been involved with local youth sports, the Gilmer County Library and Ellijay First Baptist Church was named the Gilmer Chamber’s latest Citizen of the Year (COTY).  The 2023 COTY was among awards given at the chamber’s annual meeting held Friday, Jan.

GCSO, GBI to partner for safer internet workshop

The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will team up for a special event that’s open to the public, but is especially of note to parents of school-age children. The Safer Internet Day workshop will take place Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 6-8 p.m.

Craddock Center to host Songs and Stories event rescheduled for March 9
