Need for new ambulances a concern for Gilmer Fire

The need for new ambulances is becoming  a growing concern for Gilmer Fire and Rescue. The overall call volume for the fire department has increased by about 10 percent this year, and transport times to medical facilities are often long, putting additional miles on the vehicles.

Digital app ‘great communication tool’ for sheriff’s office

Food pantry awarded new equipment

Moving heavy pallets is now a little easier for volunteers at the Gilmer Community Food Pantry. The local food pantry was one of 58 hunger relief organizations in the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama chosen to receive a motorized pallet jack at no cost.

Town hall on insurance rates set

A town hall meeting to allow citizens to speak out about new insurance rates has been scheduled. Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris said the meeting is a chance to clear the air. Insurance rates are skyrocketing, and many companies are blaming the ISO (Insurance Services Office Inc.) rating.

Gas pipeline reroute to go under river

Rerouting a portion of a natural gas pipeline that serves Ellijay will go through a section of River Park and under the Coosawattee River.  Atlanta Gas Light recently asked county commissioners for permanent and temporary construction easements on a portion of the South Main Street park property.
