Having a digital app is allowing the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office to reach many with useful updates and posts.
Since its launch last year, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s App has gained more than 4,100 subscribers on different platforms.
“We love it. It’s a great communication tool that’s just for us. We can communicate directly with the public, and people can get notifications from us immediately,” said Capt. Frank Copeland. “You don’t have to scroll through to find us like on Facebook. If you have the app, it’s going to be right there.”
Copeland said real-time weather, traffic and wreck reports tend to be among the most popular information on on the app.
“The weather is one of the (biggest) things, and that’s an automatic feed because were tied to the National Weather Service,” he added.
Users can also report crimes and submit tips with the app, which includes other features such as BOLO (Be On the Lookout) updates, as well as records request, sex offender search and inmate search options.
The app is a free download available on Android and iPhone mobile devices.
“Whether you’re using the iPhone or Android, you just go to the store and type in Gilmer County Ga. Sheriff’s Office App. There’s a police app and a sheriff’s app, and there’s a number of agencies in Georgia that use (apps). This one is set up and designed specifically for our county,” Copeland said.
