Assessor board mulls unusual common area request

Deciding whether or not to change a common area parcel back to sellable real estate brought discussion and questions when the Gilmer County Board of Assessors met Thursday, Nov. 19.

Because of COVID-19, there hasn’t been much to speak of this year in regard to public events hosted by Gilmer Arts.

Cameron Hall, Gilmer Senior Center join in holiday drive for senior citizens

Local assisted living community Cameron Hall joins the Gilmer Senior Center this holiday season for an outreach effort focused on homebound senior citizens. A Christmas gift drive is conducted by the Senior Center each year. Donations of clothing and food items are usually collected.

Gilmer Public Safety exceeds goal for Piedmont mammogram fundraiser

By having an October T-shirt fundraiser, Gilmer County Public Safety was able to raise enough money to fund future reduced-cost mammograms for 13 local residents.

Board moves for alcohol sales at golf course

Gilmer County’s Board of Commissioners voted to advertise a change to sell beer and wine at Whitepath Golf Club. “It really came about because of all the requests from visitors coming in,” said Gilmer County Chairman Charlie Paris. “It’s getting a good reputation. It’s getting around.

Ellijay council hears architect discuss Harrison Park master plan

Prior to a Nov. 16 meeting of the Ellijay City Council, three councilmembers and Mayor Al Hoyle heard a presentation from a landscape architect who designed the recently completed 10-year master plan for downtown’s Harrison Park.

Tracey Teague appointed associate probate judge

Tracey A. Teague has been officially appointed as the Associate Probate Judge of Gilmer County. She will assume that new role Jan 1, 2021.
