Four qualify for Georgia House

Four candidates qualified for the Georgia House seat left open by the death of Speaker David Ralston. Qualifying began Monday morning, Dec. 5, for a special election to fill the seat. The period ends Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., after publication of the Times-Courier.

‘A local landmark’

The herd of wooden pigs that helped made Poole’s Bar-B-Q famous remains on the hill, but the last plate of pork has been served at the popular East Ellijay restaurant. At least for now.

Warming center to open when below 30 degrees outside

A community warming center will open for public use when temperatures drop below 30 degrees this winter. Volunteers will open the warming center located at the left side entrance of the Gilmer County Civic Center, 1561 South Main Street, at 5 p.m.

Holiday events planned at Gilmer library

The Gilmer County Library will show off its 2022 Festival of Trees, while hosting other fun activities, at a holiday open house Thursday, Dec. 8. The event will last from 5:30-7 p.m.

Special election called

A special election will be held to fill the seat left vacant by the passing of Speaker David Ralston, who represented Gilmer, Fannin and a portion of Dawson County. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced the Jan.

Daffodil Project garden planned at River Park

A daffodil garden soon to be planted at River Park will bloom each year as a memorial to the many children who died during the Holocaust. The Ellijay garden will be among more than 100 Daffodil Project sites in Georgia.

Assessor board reallocates budget funds for office needs

The Gilmer County Board of Assessors approved letting some of their unused 2022 budget funds go toward purchasing office supplies and work clothing for assessors office employees when meeting Thursday, Nov. 17.

A rest room building at Harrison Park should be complete by year’s end, noted an Ellijay City Councilmember as the council met Monday, Nov. 21.
