It will be seven years before the next U.S. Census compares Gilmer County’s population to what was measured in 2020, but recent high numbers for new 911 addresses and residential building permits offer some insight into the county’s growth.

Johnny Chastain wins Georgia House seat

Johnny Chastain will represent Gilmer County, along with Fannin and a portion of Dawson, as the representative of the Georgia House 7th District. Chastain won the total vote in a runoff election garnering 4,556 votes while Sheree Ralston received 4,080.
