A local folk art festival will return to downtown Ellijay this September, but there’s a need right now for volunteers who’d like to assist in its preparation.
The fourth annual Dancing Goats Folkfest is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25-26, at the Artful Acres site just off River Street.

Organizers of a first-time music festival hope their mix of big sounds and the ever-popular legend of Bigfoot will lead to another recurring event in Ellijay.
The Holla Yella Music and Bigfoot Festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Artful Acres site at 516 River Street.

Aiding other law enforcement agencies led to a drug arrest in Gilmer County of an alleged member of the Ghost Face gang.

When classes commence Aug. 5 it will mark the beginning of Dr. Brian Ridley’s 25th year in education and first as a superintendent.
Ridley, 49, was approved by the Gilmer County Board of Education Monday, July 19, to be the district’s next superintendent.

BOE approves tentative 12.642 millage rate for advertisement

The Gilmer County Board of Education approved a tentative millage rate of 12.642 for advertisement.
The figure was announced last Thursday at the board’s regular meeting and is a rollback of 1.339 mills from 2020’s rate of 13.963.
