Pilgrim’s joins health department to boost vaccination rate

The local Pilgrim’s poultry plant is providing a juicy incentive to boost the COVID-19 vaccination rate in Gilmer County. Pilgrim’s Ellijay had staff members in the lobby of the Gilmer Health Department Tuesday, Aug.

Chamber’s Warbird Weekend events rescheduled

A vintage aircraft event the Gilmer Chamber had planned for take-off this weekend will circle back around next spring. The inaugural Georgia Mountain Warbird Weekend was scheduled to feature a ticketed dinner gala Friday, Aug. 20, and a family fun day Saturday, Aug.

Ground broken at new Boys and Girls Club site

Gilmer County moves one step closer to a new Boys and Girls Club after a groundbreaking event for a forthcoming playground last week. Renovation work is currently underway on the 8,000-square foot Progress Road facility that will eventually house the Three Rivers Boys and Girls Club.

A short-term rental ordinance up for vote quickly died when no motions to adopt or deny were given after the Ellijay City Council heard concerns and comments from local residents while meeting Monday, Aug. 16.

Development of housing, whether affordable or higher dollar subdivisions, has become a hot-button issue in Gilmer County. At the regular session of the Gilmer County Board of Commissioners, Chair Charlie Paris decided to address the issue.

Diving well or not, two pool designs to be bid

Gilmer County’s quest to build a swimming pool received some positive news. Two companies may be interested in the project. This follows two attempts to bid the pool construction project which received no bids. Two issues were raised by the companies, though.

Living statue a welcome addition at Cartecay church

A dying tree led to the creation of a “living statue” of Jesus Christ that now watches over Cartecay United Methodist Church (CUMC), as well as those driving by the place of worship at Highway 52 and Roy Road.
