A Kennesaw singer-songwriter who played his first show in Ellijay to good response last year will soon return to the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse with a new CD in tow. Mark Miller and Band perform at the playhouse Saturday, Sept 10, at 7 p.m.

A $2,500 grant will help Keep Gilmer Beautiful continue promoting and supplying tools for recycling in the local community.

Gilmer Fire training has begun

Being comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s among the starting points for the first class in Gilmer Fire and Rescue’s noncertified recruit training program. “That’s the key to the whole thing,” said Fire Chief Daniel Kauffman.

Pettit Field’s turf to be replaced for $320K

Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium’s Pettit Field is set for a makeover in December. The Gilmer County Board of Education unanimously approved to replace the top layer of the field at a cost of $320K, which will be paid for with the 2015 educational special purpose local option sales tax funds.

Quality time with dogs

A volunteer group is off on a good foot — and paw — in its aim to better prepare dogs at the Gilmer County Animal Shelter for adoption. Started last year, Ellijay Paws in Need welcomes volunteers to walk dogs and enjoy quality time with the animal shelter’s canines.
