Mr. Walter Jay Garland, 72, of Ellijay, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at his residence.
He was born in Dalton March 3, 1949, to the late Joe Garland and Helen Duckett Garland.
He was a high school graduate, class of 1968, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was retired from Amicalola Electric Company.
He is survived by wife of 50 years, Dorothy Garland; sons, Tim Garland (Sheila), and Ernest Garland (Esmeralda), both of Ellijay; brother, Dennis Floyd Garland, of Washington; sisters, Dr. Brenda Garland, of Rome, and Karen Garnados, of Kennesaw; grandchildren, Helana Jewell Garland and Colby Jade Garland.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, in the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Cantrell officiating.
Interment was in Scrougetown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Zachary Wright, Joe Weaver, Mike Lambert, Brian Lambert, Ted Duvall and Kenneth Allen.
Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
