Ms. Vernice Marlene Newberry, 58, of Ellijay, died Saturday, April 15, 2023, at her residence.
She was born in Ellijay Aug. 3, 1964, to Bertha (Weaver) Newberry and late father, Escolee Odell Newberry.
She was of the Baptist faith and worked for Parkside Nursing. She loved her family and was a beautiful singer.
She is preceded in death by significant other, Roger Hopper; and brother, Frankie Newberry.
She is survived by daughter, Amanda Leigh Hightower; son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Britney Hightower; grandsons, Logan and David Hightower; mother, Bertha Weaver Newberry; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Layton Green, Thelma Champion, Tamer and Dan Southern, Faye Mansfield, Vickie McClure and Vera Southern, all of Ellijay; brother, Danny Newberry, of Rydal; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved pets, Elam, Patrick, Baby Boy and Baby Girl.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Philip Davenport Jr., the Rev. Tony Newberry, the Rev. Jackie Ellington and the Rev. David Nicholson officiating.
Music will be by the Kerr Family.
A graveside service will follow in the Newberry Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Logan Hightower, David Hightower, Colton Parten, Braxtyn Newberry, Daniel Nicholson, Jonathan Southern, Will Martin, Ben Fisher and Gene Hightower.
Honorary pallbearers will be Isaiah, Zachary Hopper and Tre Adkins.
Flowers are being accepted or donations can be made to help fund the funeral expenses.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 19 from 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
