Mr. Charles (Charlie) Anthony Edmondson, 74, of Ellijay, passed away at his home Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022, surrounded by family.

He valiantly and optimistically fought cancer for a number of years before finally losing his battle.

He was born Feb. 18, 1948, in Ellijay, to the late Ernest and Alice Garland Edmondson.

He was a 1966 graduate of Gilmer County High School. After graduation, he attended Southern Poly Tech and later Georgia Southern University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

He then returned to Ellijay and worked as office manager at Ellijay Telephone Company. After a few years, he was recruited by State Farm and became a State Farm insurance agent in Ellijay. He later became a manager and was an overseer of agents in 10 counties. When asked to move to Atlanta, he chose to return to the agency and became an agent in Blue Ridge where he continued and completed his career. He worked a total of over 44 years for State Farm.

He was involved in many community activities in both Gilmer and Fannin counties over the years including Rotary Club and Lions Club.

He was an active member of Cartecay United Methodist Church until his health deteriorated.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, farming, cooking, John Wayne movies and Willie Nelson music. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a kind, friendly, happy man. He enjoyed life and laughter. His frequent and hearty laughter will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by loving wife of 33 years, Carolyn Crisp Edmondson; son, Cole Edmondson (Hannah Jones); daughter Cadi (Paul) Davenport; grandchildren, Renly Davenport, Sage Davenport and namesake Rory Charles Davenport; brother, Roger (Shirley) Edmondson; niece, Angie Edmondson; nephews, Michael (Ashley) Edmondson and Mark Edmondson; many cousins; and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Heather Nysewander and Minister Butch Jones officiating.

Music was by Susan Hochkins.

Interment was in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dale Cochran, Dale Chaney, Kenny Warren, John Thomas, George Bunch III, Rick Garland, Michael Edmondson, Phil Cagle, Ron Cagle and Marty McQuary.

Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Morgan, Earl Cagle and Bob Kolterman.
