Teresa Kay Norton Yarns

Mrs. Teresa Kay (Norton) Yarns, 70, of Ellijay, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022.

She was born in Brevard, N.C., to the late Luther and Lucy (Evatt) Norton.

She spent several of her childhood years in Covington, Ind., which she always remembered fondly. She returned to Brevard, graduating high school there and completing college in Asheville, N.C. She worked for 22 years as an elementary school teacher in Transylvania County, N.C.

She overcame many challenges in her life, including polio she contracted as a baby, and she was a three-time cancer survivor. A family member remarked that Teresa was “so sweet and tough at the same time.” Yet she could not overcome the loss of her treasured husband, Robert Bernard Yarns, who preceded her in death in 2021; her health declined thereafter.

She is survived by son, Brandon; brother, Douglas Norton and wife, Katy; niece, Hannah; and nephew, Jacob.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel.
